Grade 4-6 lesson Idea
There are many versions of evening rise that can be used. Below is a link to a YouTube video that students can follow along with by playing boom whackers or hand bells.
Evening Rise
One important thing to note is that the conductor is a medicine wheel. This should start a conversation about the wholistic life long learning framework in the music classroom. If you have the diagram up you should draw students attention to it. This is the framework that the CBE is working with and will be different for your school division. Make sure to adapt the concepts to fit with your school divisions framework.
Although the YouTube recording does not have work with it there are English words that go with the song. Consider playing a vocal recording for you students and having them sing along.
Working on evening rise can be a few lessons or can be used for a whole unit. There can be conversations and observations around proper playing technique, phrasing, rhythmic patterns (including half notes, quarter notes, and eighth notes), harmony and chords, and awareness and appreciation of the variety of music in Canada.

Grade 7-9 Instrumental Lesson idea
Older students can sing Evening Rise in harmony. It would be a great piece to learn for a begging choir. Choral scores for evening rise have been written and can be found on Hal Leonard and J.W. Pepper. There are also a score for a recorder ensemble by Irmhild Beutler. This arrangement includes all types of recorder and would require a variety of skills. For this reason I believe that it would be better suited to older students.
